BRONCOS SOCCER TRYOUT INFO
(for
the 2010
High School season)
UPDATED... February 17th, 2010
In order to help our athletes
understand the tryout process,
we have detailed many aspects of
tryouts below. We hope this
information will answer any questions
you may have.
For any new players, this is especially important for you to understand!
Tryouts
for the 2010 BHS Boys Soccer teams will be held on:
Wednesday, August 11th
Thursday, August 12th
Friday, August 13th
We have FIVE teams (Varsity, JV, sophomores, and two freshman squads)
so we can keep nearly 100 players... but be aware, we have had more than
140 players tryouts in the past. Therefore, it is expected that IF YOU HOPE TO
EARN A SPOT ON THE TEAM, YOU NEED TO BE AT TRYOUTS. If there are UNIQUE
circumstances that absolutely do not allow you to attend tryouts, contact
Coach Steib so that we can attempt to find a solution.
On
the three days of tryouts, we will have two sessions each day.
one between 8:00-11:00am AND another from
2:00-4:00pm OR 4:00-6:00pm.
See below for an explanation of
who attends which sessions.
ON AUGUST 11th: We
request that all players trying out please meet
at 8:00am
at the BHS Stadium/track. We
will run our traditional 2-mile
timed run. Be sure to bring
running shoes with your soccer cleats & gear!
Please remember
that ALL players trying out for VARSITY TEAM are
expected
to complete the 2 mile run in UNDER 13 MINUTES!
Freshmen, Sophomore and JV players should complete the run in the fastest time
possible,
obviously the
faster the better! ALL players SHOULD finish is less than 14 minutes.
The MORNING
tryout times on August 11th-12th-13th will
be from
8:00-11:00am.
We may also adjust and split the morning time into two sessions. This will
be determined later. On Monday, 8/11, the morning session for ALL players
will be from 8-11am.
During AFTERNOON sessions on tryout days we
will divide into two groups.
From 2:00-4:00pm,
tryouts for the Freshman and Sophomore teams
will
be held. From
4:00-6:00pm, tryouts
for the JV and Varsity teams
will
be held. (We divide into two groups in order to have smaller numbers of
players at each session, allowing
coaches to better evaluate all players.)
For
the afternoon session on August 11th, returning players are allowed
to
select which tryout
they would like to attend (i.e. which team they want to
tryout for.) Freshmen will begin at the 8:00am
session and again at the
2:00pm slot. Any players unsure of where to
tryout should attend the
age appropriate age level or they are also welcome to speak with
Coach Steib.
For Thursday
afternoon, we will determine which afternoon session each
athlete should be attending- based upon our evaluations
after the
first three sessions, we
believe we can accurately begin to place the boys
where they are likely to
play. We may also have players bounce
from early to late and back, or
vice versa if we need to see them compete
against players from both
groups. We ask that you be flexible and trust
us with these decisions.
Please be aware that for some
teams, double sessions WILL continue
after the tryouts end. Times may
be changed and will be set by
individual
coaches once teams are made on 8/14. Please
keep your
schedules
open from the start of tryouts through the start of school.
Also, all players are expected to
bring running shoes, outdoor AND
indoor soccer shoes (in case of
bad weather,) and shinguards TO EVERY
practices and tryouts. Please be prepared
for all situations!
PERHAPS MOST IMPORTANTLY OF ALL!!!
All
players need to register by August 10th with the BHS Athletic
Department. All
players must complete the registration form (includes
an
Insurance waiver) AND an IHSA-school approved physical examination
form before they are allowed to tryout.
These forms are available at BHS,
in the main office, as well as the athletic director's office.
ONCE YOU HAVE DONE THIS, THE ATLETIC OFFICE WILL GIVE YOU
YOUR PINK SLIP. YOU CANNOT TRYOUT WITHOUT THIS PAPER!!
Also, this can be done ANYTIME THIS SUMMER, so don't wait until the last minute!
MICHIGAN TEAM BUILDING TRIP- Just a reminder... to ANY
PLAYERS who
make the VARSITY TEAM, we will be
spending 3 days in Michigan
on a team building trip. Please
make sure your schedule is available for you
to attend IF YOU
MAKE VARSITY! (the trip is tentatively planned for 8/15-17)
CODE MEETING: All
players must attend this meeting with a parent
in
order to participate in any high school contests. This meeting is tentatively
scheduled for AUGUST 19th at 7:00pm in the BHS Auditorium.
Please make plans to attend!
